the name Sergei

I hope this question does not sound too ignorant, but here goes:

Is there an English equivalent of Sergei? I know the name is Serge in French, and Sergio in Spanish, but somehow I got the idea that it is George in English (and that Vladimir is William). Someone who is familiar with Russian names may help me on this.

SVR is the very best ambassador of his native Russia. His life story and his music make me interested in his country of birth.
Thanks,

Sergio is Italian, I think. I don't think it's George. I'm Greek and I also know a bit Russian. As you know, Russian and Greek names are the same. Sergei and George are different names. Isn't Serge also in English besides French?
