Rachmaninoff Conducting

I recall hearing that Rachmaninoff conducted the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra.

Does anyone know if he also conducted the BSO or the NY Phil?

Reflections!

For those lucky enough to be in the UK right now, how is the conference going over there??

I'm more than excited to hear all that I've missed :)

That's fantastic! I never pictured Rachmaninoff accompanying his friends like that in a casual environment, and I never knew that he had such a sense of humor!

Thank you so much for sharing!

How did the Tarantella foreshadow the Third piano concerto?
I've played that Suite No.2 and have heard the 3rd Piano Concerto many times but I can't say I've heard many similarities.
What comparisons did it tell of in the program notes? :)

Everything is relative.
Perhaps the scores he learned it from were recently uncovered in a differnet edition than is usually played?

It's true that recordings for radio stations as well were commercialized, sometimes limiting the artist to a time restraint (as the recording disc couldn't hold more than some period of time). I remember Horowitz talking about his first recording of the 3rd Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto. He said that ...

Myabe it was the chair? Just kidding. I don't like abrupt changes when they're unnecessary either. Often in these recordings I notice that the piano is heard almost always throughout the whole peice, whereas the orchestra might fluctuate. I've come to the simple conclusion that the piano usual...

Bostonians?

Hi! My name is Mikhail and I'll be studying at The Boston Conservatory in this coming Fall. I was wondering if there are any other Boston residents within the Society or just visiting these forums?

It'd be great to hear something about a city I know nothing about!

New film on Rachmaninoff

Has anybody heard of it recently?

If you have seen it/heard of it, how close is it to the truth?
I heard that they wanted to make it something of a love triangle in Rachmaninoff's life.

I surely hope that more of an accent was put onto his accomplishments and cultural struggles :)
