The DIES IRAE and Rachmaninoff

Postby J"rgen » Fri Sep 01, 2006 5:54 pm

Hello everyone...

I'm researching Rachmaninoff for a research essay which i am doing. I've chosen the Dies Irae and Rachmaninoff's use of it to be my topic. I've looked up the context of this, but all i can find, is lots of sites which tell me that " yes, he did a lot with it", but why don't they go into further depth if they make it seem so important...?

Maybe this forum and you all, can help me get this going...

Any body ever heard of the Dies Irae...?

(its a medieval tune, of the Catholic Church, which Rachmaninoff uses extensively in his music)
