Has anyone ever heard the bells live?? On of the BEST SVR compositions. Totally overwhelming and powerful!

I would love to see them live! As far as recordings go, I have listened to many. The one I recommend is from the London Label by the Philadelphia Orchestra with Charles Dutiot. It has the Bells on there and Three Russian Songs. I just about wore out the CD!

Here is the URL at Amazon. Too bad it's out of stock.

The Bells is a stunning composition, I think it encapsulates SVR at the height of his powers. The orchestration is superb, and the choral parts are simply wonderful. Add the great lyrics and great melodies and it's a hit! I still love Ashkenazy's rendering, I've also got Mravinsy doing a very Russian version of it.

A recording of The Bells by Mravinsky! I've never heard it. Can you tell me the orchestra and label? Is your recording on LP or CD?

For eternity : the bells by Kondrashin (Moscow philarmonic orchestra).

The sound is awful but here each bar is a miracle, a kind of magic like in no other recording I know.

We have been working on mounting a performance of "The Bells" by the orchestra in the city where I live. And also a performance in one night of the uncut versions of both the First and Fourth concerti. These will be on the schedule the next two seasons, although we are not sure yet which will appear during which season. I'm very excited about this prospect, as it has taken quite a lot of effort to get this done.

Will you keep us posted about the dates the concerts are set to take place? Apart from this forum, iwe also have our Newsletter and we would certainly welcome some words on this no doubt exciting project!
