If you have never attended a live performance of Piano Concerto No. 3 performed by an outstanding pianist and orchestra, you should make that a goal. Last night I heard pianist Roger Wright and the San Antonio Symphony conducted by Chosei Komatsu perform this brilliant masterpiece. I would need a new musical vocabulary to describe the experience, because the standard adjectives are inadequate. Roger Wright played the uncut version (I was waiting for the challenging cadenzas, and the ossia in the third movement (too glorious to be cut).
The San Antonio Symphony led by Chosei Komatsu brought out Rachmaninoff's intricate orchestral writing in a way I have not heard in a recording. It was amazing to hear each section of the orchestra clearly supporting the piano with melodies of which Rachmaninoff had in inexhaustable supply.

Sounds like it was a success, Op23#10. You obviously enjoyed it; wish I could have been there, but, as you know, San Antonio is a bit far away from Monterey, CA! :)
