Nonexistent "Smerkalos" Song Sheet Music

Postby mmccarthy47 » Tue Jan 08, 2008 7:19 am

I recently purchased a CD of Rachmaninoff's songs:

Rachmaninov Complete Songs, Volume 1
(Howard Shelley, piano)

..and became interested in performing some of these songs (I am a pianist) in an upcoming concert with capable vocalists..

My personal favorite of the bunch is "Smerkalos," but the sheet music is proving virtually impossible to find..

I purchased from Dover Publications the "Complete Songs of Rachmaninoff," and although many unrecorded songs are in the book, this one is not. Upon further searching, the sheet music cannot be purchased anywhere online, and there are very few records of Rachmaninoff having written it, though it is definitely a work of his.

"Smerkalos" is set to a poem by A.K. Tolstoy, and is a wonderful piece for what I'm assuming is tenor, with piano accompaniment. This particular recording is fantastic, and would recommend it to anyone!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Oh, thank you))) You are welcome!

By the way not so long ago - two weeks ago in Russia died Muslim Magomaev.

You can download his and many other's records of SVR's songs here:

rusklarom.narod.ru/rahmaninov.htm

Just don't forget to rename every file when you download, because they are in the directories of the singers and usually have the same name, and if you save them in the same folder, they just replace each other, and that's no good.
