Tri Russkie Pesni - Three Russian Songs Op. 41

Postby DanNYC » Tue Feb 17, 2009 2:11 am

Does anyone know who currently publishes the score of the Three Russian Songs OP. 41? They were originally issued in Europe by TAIR, Rachmaninoff's own publishing venture, but they don't seem to have been taken up by Charles Foley (Rachmaninoff's US agent and publisher) like the other TAIR publications, such as the 4th Concerto, Paganini Rhapsodie, Third Symphony, and the later revised piano pieces and transcriptions. I imagine that being in Russian and for Chorus and Large Orchestra, there wasn't a market for the score here at the time so they remained unpublished.

More recently, they were published in the 50s and republished in the 70s by State Music Publishers in Moscou published them and some composers collective in Amsterdam published a homemade version for chorus and 2 pianos, which is available, but which I've never seen.

But otherwise I can't find anything in print today.

Does anyone have any other information that might help?

StewH,

I saw it. Thanks for the heads-up. $200 - but I don't blame him if someone is willing to buy it for that much. I wouldn't mind offering him $20 if he could make a xerox for me but I'd probably been banned from Amazon for life. They don't look too kindly on that sort of thing. It's a shame when a publisher keeps music unavailable. I really don't know why Rachmaninoff did not make arrangements with a major publisher when he left Russia rather than starting off in this kind of venture with his friend. Any idea?
