Paterson-Olenich's recording of 1st Piano Sonata and Etudes

Postby Lilacs » Mon Feb 01, 2010 8:27 am

The other recording mentioned in the recent Newsflash was Yuri Paterson-Olenich's recording of the 1st Sonata and the Opus 39 Etudes-Tableaux.

I haven't tracked down a copy yet, but it seems to be getting rave reviews:

Editor's Choice in last September's Gramophone:

"There are bigger-name pianists, hordes of them. And yet Yuri Paterson-Olenich delivers, for my money, one of the most compelling Rachmaninov discs of the year. He never spares himself in probing the often uncomfortable emotional depths of this music, while his virtuosity yields pride of place to no one. I've already listened to it three times."

I've found the longer main review here:
http://www.gramophone.net/Issue/Page/September%202009/73/1003506/

It was also CD of the week on Radio 3:

and the bbc review:

There's a review on the Fanfare website too, but I'm not a subscriber.
